Vicente Iborra gave an honest account of his side’s defeat against Barcelona at the Camp Nou and looked to Saturday’s match against Deportivo as a vital game for ending Sevilla’s poor run of form.

Luis Suarez’s early strike and a Lionel Messi double condemned Sevilla to sixth game without a win, and Iborra told of the team’s hurt.

He said: “We are hurting because we don’t like the situation that we’re in, but it’s been like this for a long time.

“We have to make a point and on Saturday we have to win no matter what, it has to be seen as a final, we have to prepare for it like it’s a final and get three points to change this situation.”

On the performance against Barcelona, the captain said: “The game changed in a few mintes. We started well and played in their half, but they took the lead.

“We’re now thinking about the final on Saturday, that we have to win whatever happens. At half time we had to chance a lot of tactical things to improve, but above all we had to show our attitude, play with pride and character. This situation is hurting us. In the second half we caused Barça problems.”

The Valencia-born midfielder explained that “the situation has to hurt us, that’s a part of recovering and going forward, we have to win, no matter what, and look for every way to do so. This run of form has to hurt. We cannot go this many games without winning if we want to qualify for the Champions League.

“When you don’t win everything is negative, what we need us a win, a good feeling and I’m sure that if we win we will see the future in another light.”
