Match Preview: Barnet vs. Chesterfield

Chesterfield travel to Underhill on Saturday looking to build on an Easter weekend that saw the Spireites take a respectable 4 points from a possible 6 against tough opposition.

Although manager Paul Cook expressed his contentment with his side’s current form, the 46 year old was eager to highlight the problems Edgar David’s Bees will pose, fighting to preserve their Football League status.

Barnet currently sit 18th in League 2, 3 points above the drop but boast an impressive record of late, having not lost or conceded in their last four outings.

With the need for attacking options against a team with a strong recent defensive record in mind, the ankle injury suffered by Marc Richards against Port Vale prompted Cook to recall striker Scott Boden from his loan spell with Alfreton.

Boden, 23, scored 3 goals in his 14 games for the Reds in his stint at the Impact Arena that started at the end of January.

On the extent of Richards’ injury, the Spireites boss said: “He misses this week which is disappointing. We’ll go from week to week with Marc but the quicker he heals, the better for us because we just want all of our players available.”

Liam Cooper was also forced off with injury in the draw against the Valiants, but initial fears about the seriousness of the injury were lessened by Cook.

“Liam’s a little bit better, [there has been] a little bit more improvement in Liam. Going forward the likelihood is that Liam may feature on Saturday but that’s one we’ll learn more about tomorrow.”

With no other injury worries ahead of the trip to North London, Paul Cook told The Chesterfield Post that the club are pleased with preparations for next season, with an unnamed striker already having signed a pre-contract at the Proact.
